Dental Sleep Medicine/TMD

Do snoring, jaw clicks, or persistent headaches interfere with your life? At Elements Dental Studio, we specialize in diagnosing and treating sleep-disordered breathing and TMJ/TMD concerns using advanced screening, digital imaging, and tailored therapies. Whether you’re dealing with restless sleep or chronic jaw tension, we focus on the root cause so you can restore restful nights and comfortable days.

Treatment Approaches

  • Sleep Appliance Therapy: Custom, comfortable night devices that keep your airway open and reduce snoring or mild sleep apnea.

  • TMJ/TMD Evaluation & Orthotic Splints: 3D imaging and precise jaw alignment solutions for jaw pain, popping, or clenching.

  • Myofunctional & Airway-Based Orthodontics: Muscle training and growth-guided aligners/expanders to support breathing, jaw health, and long-term comfort.

  • Botox Therapy for TMJ: Botox is used to reduce the intensity of jaw muscle contractions and release the pain associated with muscle tension in the jaw

Dental Sleep FAQ

What is the difference between TMJ and TMD?

“TMJ” stands for the temporomandibular joint—the hinge that connects your jaw to your skull. “TMD” refers to the disorders that affect this joint and the surrounding muscles, ligaments, and nerves. These conditions can cause jaw pain, limited movement, headaches, and other symptoms that impact daily life.

TMJ pain can result from multiple factors, including jaw clenching, teeth grinding (bruxism), stress, injury, bite imbalance, or airway obstruction during sleep. Hormonal changes, arthritis, or chronic muscle tension may also contribute. Our team uses advanced diagnostics to uncover the underlying cause before recommending treatment.

TMJ disorders can cause:

  • Jaw pain, clicking, or popping sounds
  • Difficulty chewing or opening your mouth fully
  • Earaches, ringing in the ears, or muffled hearing
  • Headaches, neck or shoulder tension, and dizziness

If these symptoms sound familiar, schedule an evaluation—early diagnosis helps prevent long-term discomfort.

At Elements Dental Studio, we begin with a comprehensive TMD assessment that includes a health history review, facial measurements, bite evaluation, and 3D cone-beam imaging. This allows us to visualize your jaw joints and determine the exact source of pain or dysfunction.

Treatment depends on your diagnosis. We offer custom orthotic splints (not standard night guards) to realign the jaw, dual-wavelength laser therapy for muscle pain, and FDA-approved Botox® injections to relax overactive jaw muscles. We may also coordinate with ENTs, myofunctional therapists, and sleep specialists for a full-body approach to healing.

Mild cases can sometimes improve with rest, relaxation, and awareness of jaw habits. However, persistent pain, clicking, or locking should never be ignored. Early evaluation helps prevent more serious joint damage and chronic discomfort.
